Monday, October 17, 2022 –Ivy Chelimo rose to fame after she tweeted a comment during the heated Rigathi Gachgua-Martha Karua deputy Presidential debate which was held on 19th July, 2022.
Background check indicates that the breakthrough tweet was sent at exactly 9:11PM. A post aimed at throwing a banter at the William Ruto’s running mate, Rigathi Gachagua.
In the tweet, she took a swipe at Mr Gachgua for not mentioning anything to do with ‘freedom’ which the Kenya Kwanza brigade and supporters countrywide had become used to.
“Riggy G amekataa kutaja freedom,” the brief tweet that broke the camel’s back read.
Immediately she dropped the tweet, thousands of young Kenyans were attracted to the new nickname and, in unison, picked it from there.
Spreading like bush fire, the name became among the top trends on that particular evening way through to their inauguration ceremony which was held at Moi Sports Center Kasarani, Nairobi.
In one of her recent interviews, Ivy recounted how she was afraid of mentioning Gachagua or any other politician by name hence her choice of the Riggy-G just incase someone took her to court.
This safety measure, she disclosed, was informed by the fact that she is a law graduate and aware of a few implications that could come with pointing peoples’ names in controversial posts.
“You might mess around and mention a politician’s name and get in trouble, but I needed something that would make the youth get aware of the debate,” she told DP Gachagua.
Riggy-G would, however, end up being received well by the political class including the deputy president himself who has eventually rewarded the creativity with a plum job offer at Harambee Houser Annex.
He gave her Riggy-G Brand Initiator job during the World Food Day event held in Kajiado County today Monday October 17.
