Saturday, October 29, 2022 –Newly-sworn in Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has exposed an astronomical string of corruption in the county of Machakos perpetrated by the previous regime.
In her long revelation of on how the county lost billions of money through a well-choreographed and protected looting, Governor Ndeti mentioned that over a billion of tax payers money got paid to fake accounts both in salaries and contracts.
Reading the list of the lost money from public coffers, she divulged that in one instance, one Identity card had a questionable KRA pin adding that corrupt individuals and systems in the Alfred Mutua administration were behind the looting network.
“Yani wezi, thieves. While our children are fainting in schools without food, you are getting salaries twice. Shame on you,” Ndeti condemned as quoted by the Star.
In addition, the outspoken governor said there was one case of an officer with one tax PIN, but different payroll numbers.
“Hawa ni wa kufungwa na kuwekwa kwa jela, there is no mercy,” and angry Ndeti charged.
She also added that there were 14 more cases of county officers with the same payroll numbers but different tax PINs paid by the county government.
Moreover, the county boss said there were eight other cases of doubtful payments of arrears.
Additionally, Governor Ndeti cited five shocking cases in which the county government employed underage persons; this being a dirty strategy put in place to syphon public funds from the treasury.
“Under 18 children being paid salaries here,” Ndeti said.
She made the revelations during the swearing in ceremony of various tax forces held at her office last Wednesday.
“These taskforces will help investigate and interrogate the current state of Machakos County Government and recommend to my office the way forward and resolutions to enable my government work effectively,” Ndeti affirmed.
The governor disclosed that some of the reports from the ministries of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs, Special Programmes and State Department for Public Service had revealed that there were 36 cases of shared bank accounts.
Furthermore, there were 14 cases of officers with the same national IDs but different tax PINs being paid by the Machakos County government, 2 cases of officers with same IDs but different payroll numbers and 28 cases of officers with same payroll numbers but different ID numbers.
