Mother Hawking Food Also Dies in the Kasarani Building Tragedy

Thursday, November 17, 2022 –The Building that collapsed in Kasarani Seasons area on Wednesday November 16 evening killed a food vendor.

Lucy Wanjiru, who usually takes food to the site was caught in the rubble after the seven-storey building under construction collapsed with constructors on the site.

A source who spoke to media yesterday indicated that, the innocent mother while trapped in the rubble, continued talking to Red Cross rescue team but, with time, her phone went off making it hard to locate and save her within time.

And when the rescuers finally located her in the rubble, she had suffocated and died of both external and internal injuries.

Among several other rescue units, there was also the Disaster Response Unit DRU from the military which arrived to aid in the recovery.

The unit helped retrieve a total of eight victims by yesterday night while the death toll was confirmed to have stood at three.

During the rescue mission, heavy downpour was experienced which affected the exercise for some hours before the exercise resumed later on.

A source also told this desk that one of the relied-on excavators experienced a break-down after it started leaking fuel.

Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, has already issued orders to charge the owner with murder.
