Friday, November 18, 2022 –John Waluke has finally been freed on a sh 10 million bail as hearing of his appeal case awaits verdict.

His lawyers, Otiende Amolo and Elisha Ongoya, told the Court of Appeal that the sh 313 million which their client had been accused of stealing from the cereals board was paid to him lawfully for the services rendered.

The Court also granted him an alternative of sh 20,000 bond with surety of a similar amount pending appeal determination.

The Azimio la Umoja MP alongside Ms Grace Wakhungu are said to have committed the economic crime in the year 2004.

In his argument, the MP affirmed that he would walk to the Court of Appeal to make sure he is freed since he was a leader who is supposed to represent the people who elected him.

He told the court that there is high likelihood of him losing his position in Parliament if he is jailed for all that long.

He also said that the people who elected him in office would suffer an equal fate of lack of leadership against what the law requires.

“There is a clear and present danger that if this application is not heard and determined promptly.

“The applicant will miss Parliamentary sessions, leading to loss of his seat or failure of representation of the people of Sirisia Constituency in the National Assembly,” his court papers stated.
