Wednesday, November 23, 2022 –East African Legislative Assembly EALA Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has dumped Raila Odinga’s Azimio for Kenya Kwanza.
While declaring Rigathi Gachagua as the only kingpin of their region, he revealed that Azimio MPs and Senators some were not sincere during the recent EALA elections.
“I want to thank the DP Rigathi Gachagua who saw that Mt Kenya region will have a problem if we are not represented in Arusha.
“Rigathi did well in uniting us, this is the only senior leader we have in Mt Kenya. We need to rally behind him as a region,” Kega went on.
MP Kega, who has been an ardent supporter of Mr. Odinga, claimed that not all Azimio leaders wanted him to win the EALA seat despite the fact that he sacrificed a lot of his time to support Raila in the August 9 polls.
“I thought my people from Azimio would support me but I was shocked when the voting was done. Some of them voted for people I did not even recognise.
“I could not believe that would happen to me considering how I stuck out my neck for one of their own,” Kega also stated.
The former Kieni MP was underscoring the recent utterances by DP Rigathi Gachagua that he is the one who mobilized Kenya Kwanza MPs to support Kega’s course.
“We are mentoring our young leaders to prepare them for leadership. We do not want to be caught in the situation we were in as a region because nobody was mentored,” DP Gachagua had earlier stated.
Those who won the EALA positions include, Kanini Kega, Winnie Odinga, Kennedy Kalonzo, and Suleiman Shahbal.
Others are Hassan Omar, Zipporah Kering, David Sankok, Mwangi Geoffrey Maina, and Iman Falhada.
