Friday, November 25, 2022 –Members of the Kenya Defense Forces KDF will lose a one-day salary to support drought-hit regions.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made this announcement on Friday November 25 during the launch of the National Steering Committee on drought response.
“Our men and women in the KDF have offered to forgo a one-day salary to contribute to the drought response kitty,” he announced.
He said every working Kenyan should be able to see why it is imperative to help save lives in suffering parts of the country that needs both food and water.
The DP, in his speech, clarified that the funds will be channeled through an official pay bill which will be provided in few days’ time.
“We appeal to Kenyans of goodwill to contribute a percentage of their salaries to a pay bill number that will be established soon to contribute to the drought response kitty,” Gachagua appealed.
He seized the opportunity to warn that anybody found misappropriating the donations will be dealt with by the law.
“Taking advantage of the drought situation to con people money when people are hungry and dying is ungodly and unacceptable,” DP Gachagua also fired.
The second in command further divulged that their government was looking forward to raising a whopping sh 57.5 billion or $472 Million to fund the exercise which should cover not less than 4.3 million victims of drought and starvation.
