Thursday, December 1, 2022 –-Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has explained why he will not shut down city churches because of noise.

Speaking on the matter today Thursday December 1 afternoon, the newly-sworn into office city CEO mentioned that he will, instead, choose to involve them in a dialogue so that to find a lasting solution on how they can reduce noise pollution.

He added that, unlike clubs and restaurants, church owners should be treated differently because this was the first time they were being warned. Also, he reasoned that most of the churches are located in the CBD where families don’t reside but for those ones in the estates, measures will be taken so that there is sanity and fairness to both sides.

Sakaja who was speaking during the official commissioning of Green Park Terminal on Thursday December 1 insisted that dialogue would give a lasting solution on this particular issue.

“I will not close the churches. We want them to spread the gospel on obeying rules and regulations. I will initiate talks with them because we must be reasonable and accommodate each other in the city,” he stated.

However, he said his quest to stop bars and restaurants from operating in residential areas will go on as planned.

” I will not go back on the abolition of bars and restaurants from residences. We have closed that chapter.Let us move on. Those saying people will lose jobs are seeking sympathy.  It is the right thing to do although is unpopular,” Sakaja added.

Raila joined the congregation at Bible Fellowship Church in Kigumo Constituency, Murang’a County on a Sunday.

His remarks are coming against the backdrop of calls to weed out noisy churches from operating in busy and family environments.
