Tuesday, December 13, 2022 –President William Ruto has joined opposition leader Raila Odinga in the United States of America US where the two are scheduled to attend the Africa Leaders’ Summit organized to take place in Washington DC.
An official Monday December 11 dispatch from Statehouse said that the head of State will be prioritizing post Covid-19 measures so that to expedite economic recovery.
“The priority is to scale up measures that support resilience and recovery from the effects of Covid-19, and the climate crisis that has seen the continent suffer disproportionate consequences,” the dispatch from Statehouse indicated.
President Ruto jetted away shortly after presiding over the 58 Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.
On the other hand, Raila Odinga who flied to the meeting a day earlier – on Saturday December 10 – is attending in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure.
“He will be attending the meeting in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development,” a communication from the Azimio leader’s office said.
Odinga who was planning to hold a parallel anti-Ruto rally at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds called the meeting off after receiving the US 3-day Summit invite.

The Summit is purely aimed at outlining the commitment of the US to African countries in terms of development, peace and diplomatic ties.
