Wednesday, December 14, 2022 –Charlene Ruto’s ‘Office of the First Daughter’ remark has continued to elicit mixed reactions from around the country.
The second eldest daughter to President William Ruto and Mama Rachel Ruto, on Tuesday December 13, left audience aghast after she introduced her team of assistants and which she linked to the ‘office of the first daughter’.
The video quickly circulated on online on Tuesday and Wednesday in which she was speaking to an audience during a youth summit.
“So before again I continue, I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya. So, I’ll start from the back. This is Mike Sagana, he’s one of my team members. He’s a politician and he’s my principal advisor in my team. And this is Jermaine Momanyi, he is the head of trade and investments at the office of the first daughter…” Charlene started.
This unexpected introduction triggered a moment of disbelief, clapping and then some laughter before she interjected seeking to know what was funny.
“…I don’t get what’s funny,” Charlene said in reaction to the audience laughter.
But in essence, the Kenyan Constitution doesn’t have such an office as ‘office of the first daughter’ and this is what the audience was seemingly communicating back through the laughter.
It has, therefore, remained a complete confusion on how she came up with such an office and who could be financing it.
“For the first time since God made Kenya, we have the office of the first daughter…okay. Is there anything we don’t know?” asked Philip Etale, a key aide to opposition figure Raila Odinga.
She is currently running Charlene Ruto Foundation – a national charity entity – which she launched just recently after her family won power.
The girl, has therefore, been traversing the Kenya’s 47 counties meeting and talking to students, streets kids as well as leaders; what has also caused a debate on what she could be upto.
This is not the first time the president’s daughter is at cross roads with the public, a couple of days ago, while talking to a group of university students at her former school, she claimed to have been in the business of smokies and kachumbari despite being born in a powerful family.
