Wednesday, December 14, 2022 –Embattled Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has lost first round of her ouster in a move County Assembly Members MCAs say is to clean the county and have a serious person at the helm.
Homenews.co.ke has learnt that all the 67 MCAs who were present in the Wednesday December 14 session voted against her.
Citing continuous abuse of office, the visibly angry MCAs vowed to never allow her back at the top of the county threatening a repeat exercise should this happen.
Leader of Minority, Dennis Kiogora, moved the motion to remove her; a session that saw him also table several video clips to prove his accusations against the third governor.
It is claimed that the current county CEO, despite being in the know of the motion today, she refused to show up in the Assembly to defend self.
She instead argued that the MCAs were in complete contempt of the court’s verdict that barred anyone from scheming to remove her.
“Proceeding with the impeachment process would amount to ingeniously perpetuating the very mischief meant to be cured by the conservatory orders of the honourable court,” Mwangaza’s lawyer, Elias Mutuma said.
The idea to impeach Kawira was birthed on Tuesday, December 6, where the MCAs accused her of irregular appointments, nepotism and unlawful dismissal of county officials.
They also accused her of lacking enough knowledge and skills to run a county that has had two well-schooled governors(Peter Munya and Kiraitu Murungi) before her.
