Monday, December 19, 2022 –FIFA World Cup 2022 Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe managed to score a total of eight goals in the entire tournament that ended yesterday December 18 afternoon.
The highly explosive French forward bagged the special Boot after a successful hat-trick in the final match against stubborn Argentinians.
On the other hand, Leonel Messi had a total of seven goals; almost tying with Mbappe in what could have been a tiebreaker.
During the final day Sunday December 18, Mbappe, 23, netted a total of three goals back-to-back against Argentina.
Argentina side would, however, win the match 4-2 through a tension-packed penalty session just after the extra 30 minutes ended at 3-3 goals.
And in a story by the Fox Sports, Mbappé, 23, is the first Frenchman to win the Golden Boot, though Just Fontaine scored a record 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup. This, however, happened before this award was introduced into football.
Fox Sports further observed that Mbappé can’t say he is the youngest Golden Boot winner ever because Germany’s Thomas Müller won it as a 20-year-old at the 2010 World Cup.
Mbappe yesterday went home with both the Golden Boot as well as the match ball and it has been revealed that his father first wanted his son to play in Cameroon’s team but due to corruption this couldn’t work.
“At first, I wanted my son to play for Cameroon but, someone at the Cameroon Football Federation charged a sum of money that I didn’t have to make him play. The French didn’t charge anything,” the father said as posted by MCSK Chairman Ezekiel Mutua.
The father went ahead to advise that; never ever blame any player of African origin for playing for a European club. Embolo was a victim of bribe-hungry sports managers too.
