Wednesday, January 11, 2023 –ICT Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo, has revealed that the government has fully taken control of eCitizen platform which has been under private hands since its inception.
Addressing the press on Tuesday January 10, the Cabinet secretary said William Ruto’s government wants all services taken care of under one roof.
To fast-track the project, the CS noted that the eCitizen platform will have a lot of what every Kenyan intends to access every day.
He added that their government is planning to put atleast 5000 government services on the digital avenue within the next six months.
“We have just taken over the e-Citizen platform and want to upgrade the infrastructure and by next week we will be onboarding additional services on that platform from consumption of services by the public,” Mr. Owalo stated.
In his address, Owalo further noted that Huduma Namba rolled out by the previous regime was a good idea only that it was poorly implemented and promised to revive it in another proper way.
“The intention of Huduma Namba was good because it was trying to ensure that we have a digital identity that could facilitate virtual transactions between the government and the public as far as the provision of services is concerned
“It is the same thing we are going to do as we roll out this government digitisation process because it is still imperative that we don’t need as Kenyans to go to government offices flashing identity cards,” Owalo told Citizen Tv.
He assured that they are looking at Huduma Namba project in a different way with an aim of benefiting the country and not just afew individuals in business.
President William Ruto recently made public his intentions to make government services a lot easier and quicker through digitization.
Ruto also promised to make electricity and internet affordable for everybody so that to provide an enabling environment for young innovators.
