Friday, February 17, 2023 –Long-serving YouTube Chief Executive Officer Susan Wojcicki has resigned to focus on personal projects.
Ms Wojcicki who has been at the helm of the tech giant made this resignation confirmation on Thursday February 16 saying this was a personal decision which has come at the right time after 25 years of working at the company.
“Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I’m passionate about.
“The time is right for me, and I feel able to do this because we have an incredible leadership team in place at YouTube,” her message read in part.
She was one of the first employees at Google who joined the company in February 2014 and managed to serve in different capacities and later worked at acquiring YouTube for Google.
“I took on each challenge that came my way because it had a mission that benefited so many people’s lives around the world: finding information, telling stories, and supporting creators, artists, and small businesses,” she said in her departure message.
We learn that Neil Mohan, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, will be taking charge of the company after Susan has left.
Susan promised to help her colleague during the transition period and showed optimism that he will definitely deliver.
“He has a wonderful sense for our product, our business, our creator and user communities, and our employees. Neal will be a terrific leader for YouTube,” she said.
YouTube is a video sharing platform which has been compensating content creators to the tune of billions every year.
