Fact Check: Is Former VP Moody Awori Dead?

Monday, February 27, 2023 –News on the death of former Vice President Moody Awori have been spreading on major social media platforms the better part of Monday February 27.

This, however, remained unconfirmed reports with bloggers contradicting each other on the issue that left social media highly divided in between.

Both Facebook and Twitter platforms were awash with Uncle Awuori’s demise but, upto the time of going to the press, there was, not, reliable confirmation.

“Is it true what I am seeing about uncle Moody Awori? I hope it is not true,” renowned Nairobi blogger Cyprian Nyakundi asked.

It saw Journalist and social media activist Abuga Makori respond saying the family of the ex-VP had confirmed that the politician was still alive and healthy.

Same positive news was updated by the National Television –NTV – confirming that their reporters had spoken to the family which refuted the death claims.

“Former VP Moody Awori is alive and kicking, his family has confirmed,” NTV updated their viewers.

Moody, 94, was Kenya’s 9th Vice President and is associated with Prison Reforms. He was picked by the then President Kibaki after the death of Kijana Wamalwa in 2003. In 2008, he was dropped for Kalonzo Musyoka having lost Funyula seat.
