Wednesday, March 1, 2023 –President William Ruto hoodwinked opposition leader Raila Odinga into thinking that he(Raila) had already won the elections before elections took place.
Speaking for the first time on a national Tv interview on KTN News show held on Tuesday February 28 night, Mr. Odinga claimed that President William Ruto had sought his help through envoys to create the position of opposition leader back in July 2022.
According to the Azimio boss, Dr. Ruto had believed that Raila was the next head of State and, therefore, wanted a place for the opposition.
Raila said envoys went to meet the then Deputy President Ruto seeking to know his next move in the event he(Ruto) lost the Presidential election.
“He said he wanted to be a very powerful opposition leader,” Odinga recounted Ruto’s desire after the election.
He said that Ruto sought the help of the envoys to push him to have the Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration create the position before exiting power.
“He wanted them to help him (Ruto) pressurize me to create the position of an opposition leader in Parliament,” said Odinga.
The Orange Party leader said that after Ruto emerged victorious in the election, the envoys paid him a visit and asked him to create the position since he was now the president of Kenya.
“That is the origin of this proposal. That is how he wrote the position of official opposition leader,” said Odinga.
Raila told KTN News hat he got the information from several diplomats who spoke to him during and after the election process.
But Mr. Odinga criticized the move by Ruto to write to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula seeking to have the position created.
The opposition honcho argued that Ruto’s desire to create him an office through the Parliament was breaking the law; likening the move to that of the Building Bridges Initiative BBI that was undertaken by the Kenyatta-led administration and which Ruto fought fangs and tongs to its permanent death.
