Thursday, March 2, 2023 –Heavy downpour is on the way; according to the latest world’s weather prediction by the World Meteorological Organization WMO.
WMO has today Thursday March 2 warned that the high temperatures and persistent drought experienced in the Greater Horn of Africa will soon usher in El Nino rains.
The heavy trains could develop in a few weeks and, later on in April, there will be low levels before June to August when strong levels of water will occur again.
Kenya Meteorological Department KMD has indicated that though El-nino could be around, the rain will not be enough for a successful harvest.
Worlds Meteorological Orgainization holds the view that, from June, there will be a 55 percent of El Nino hitting the Horn of Africa.
“Long lead forecasts for June to August indicate a much higher chance of 55 per cent of El Nino developing,” a statement from WMO read in part.
WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas, in his statement, warned that El Nino would lead to another increase in global temperatures noting that the past eight-year period had been the warmest on record.
Currently, many parts of the country have started experiencing low rains scattered around the week with Western, Lake Basin and Great Rift having been among the early beneficiaries.
This has seen locals take to their farms to prepare for the planting season starting March 2023.
