Saturday, March 11, 2023 –Charlene Ruto and Winnie Odinga have met today in an event organized in Nairobi.

The daughters of Kenya’s main political rivals – Raila Amollo Odinga and President William Ruto – met on Friday, March 11, and for the first time since last election.

Ms Charlene as well as Winnie who is now a Member of Assembly at East African Legislative Assembly EALA in Arusha Tanzania, were attending the Kenya Model United Nations 22nd Forum that concerns itself with championing for Women’s Rights.

“The future is present action based on past lessons. When we think about what we want tomorrow, we must reflect today on what we had yesterday,” Charlene started.

She asked those in women leadership positions both in and out of the country to help protect the rights of girls in the society which subjects them(women) to so many challenges that include insecurity, intimidation and stigma.

“We are at the intersection where past talk, ideas and planning must shift to higher ambition, bold action and change.

“We are at the point where the voice of the youth can accelerate creativity and innovation to meet the growing needs of our population,” Charlene urged.

Ms Winnie – Raila’s daughter – divulged that for a long time now, women have been a target of criminals masquerading on the internet.

“Anybody can say anything about anybody, and just because it’s on the Internet, it becomes a fact. Reputations are then ruined, lives are ruined and that is why we are seeing high cases of suicide

“We need to create safe spaces for our people to meet online, interact and share things safely,” Winnie raised the concern.

Today’s meeting is coming at the time their parents are engaged in fierce political rivalry over the high cost of living as well as lack of clear democracy.
