Wednesday, March 15, 2023 –Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has hinted at supporting President William Ruto’s 2027 presidential bid.
Assuring his constituents that Ruto’s win is inevitable in 2027, Mutula who was speaking to county government officials and a section of his supporters while commissioning the rehabilitation of Ndukuma Dam in Muvau/Kikuumini Ward, noted that those who are seeking to unseat Ruto could be wasting their time.
The Wiper Party elected governor insinuated that Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua could be day-dreaming or leaving in denial by thinking that Ruto would pave way for them before his 10 years are over.
“He beat many odds to win the presidency since he had the capacity. It will be hard to unseat him. State House is not a bedroom where you just walk in,” Governor Mutula said.
The first-time governor also added that the Kamba community was still too poor to finance a fully-fledged campaign machinery that could match that of William Ruto.
“You think a presidential seat comes easy? You cannot raise sh10 million to support a presidential campaign yet you are nursing presidential ambitions. It is impossible. Ask the current president,” Mr Kilonzo Jnr said on Tuesday.
He, therefore, went ahead to urge the likeminded leaders from his community to first work on improving the economic standards of the Kamba people before dreaming of becoming anything.
“Before we get to the presidency we aspire, we have to change our livelihoods. We have to provide food for these people. We should look for business opportunities for these others (locals) so that they have money,” he was quoted by the Nation.Africa.
The governor went ahead to laud Ruto for winning the presidency despite all the odds adding that he(Ruto) was determined to get power through sufficient funding, maneuver and high-level networks.
These remarks are coming just a month after he dismissed the ongoing countrywide Azimio la Umoja’s anti-Ruto rallies.
