Friday, March 17, 202 –Ministry of Interior has denied publishing Gazette Notice in line with Raila’s Monday March 20 holiday announcement.
On Friday March 17 morning, government flagged the viral Notice which had given Kenyans time to remain at home as Raila and his Azimio supporters hold demonstrations in the city.
In the purported Gazette Notice, there was a signature of Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Kithure Kindiki in respect with Odinga pronouncements.
“It is notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 20th March, 2023 a public holiday marking Mass Action Day,” the fake notice read in part.
Government has since cautioned its citizens not to buy such propaganda since no one will be required to join a demonstration that could plunge the country into both destruction and confusion.
It went ahead to caution the whole country against honouring opposition’s calls for holiday and illegal mass actions starting Monday.
The fake notice has since been shared by the Ministry which added a red-crossing warning label declaring it to be fake.
On Tuesday March 14, Raila announced Monday March 20 a public holiday after Narc Kenya Party leader, Martha Karua, urged him to make the declaration.
“I hereby now declare today in the name of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition that Monday the 20th of March will be a public holiday,” Raila heeded and made the declaration.
This saw the country divided in between on whether his announcement would be heeded by supporters or not.
