Tuesday, March 21, 2023 –President William Ruto’s government, the Kenya Kwanza Coalition now wants Raila Odinga jailed for yesterdays’ chaos in the city.
The coalition dropped their statement through the National Assembly majority leader, Kimani Ichung’wah, on Tuesday, March 21.
They urged the police to assess the damage caused yesterday Monday March 20 by Azimio supporters and use the evidence to nail Odinga in court.
“Not just to arrest the small boys who are paid to riot. If the buck stops at the door of Odinga, go for Odinga, if the buck stops at his sponsor’s door, go for them,” Kimani Ichung’wah noted.
They also linked the damage to the Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta whom they claim is funding the protests that seem to be costing the its economy.
“The buck stops with Raila and his sponsors, and they must be held to account for the destruction that took place during the protest,” Ichung’wah added.
And as part of their plans to counter Odinga’s defiance, KK leadership has threatened to write to the Registrar of Political Parties to withhold funds meant for the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party so that the monies can be used to repair and compensate for protest damages.
So far, the Ministry of Interior led by Prof Kithure Kindiki has come out to laud the police for job well-done during the demonstrations.
On the other hand, Azimio MP Opiyo Wandayi who was arrested yesterday and released in the evening has thanked their supporters for turning up in large numbers.
“Kenyans from all walks of life made us proud as a country yesterday. This movement is not just about Azimio, it’s growing by the day. Those who turned up belong to various political formations,” he said.
Raila announced that their protests will be held every Monday of the week until President Ruto’s administration heed his demands.
