Thursday, March 23, 2023 –Atleast four Members of Parliament MPs aligned with Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition have been dragged to court over alleged destructive mass action.
Led by Leader of National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi and Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo, the lawmakers today Thursday March 23 morning were charged with participating in unlawful assembly and destroying a Volkswagen Passat motor vehicle valued at sh 1.1M.
The politicians arrived at the Kahawa Law Courts accompanied by a few of their colleagues including representing lawyer Dan Maanzo.
They include Senate and National Assembly Minority leaders Stewart Madzayo and Opiyo Wandayi, MPs Amina Mnyazi (Malindi) and Ken Chonga.
Politician Ousborne Yogo was also part of the accused who were required to show up in court today Thursday March 23.
The five were charged for taking part in the Monday March 20 demonstrations called by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Upon arrest, the leaders would later in the day be released on bail.
They had, on Monday, stormed the Kenyatta International Convention Centre KICC.
Soon after their entrance, they were dismissed by police officers who hurled tear gas canisters at them describing their assembly as illegal.
