Wednesday, March 29, 2023 –President William Ruto has reiterated his stand on LGBTQ society and culture in Kenya.
Speaking in an interview in Germany yesterday Tuesday March 28, the head of State told his host that the Kenyan laws are different and citizens in his country only understand men and women marriage and that something else could be out of order.
“In Kenya the only understanding of relationships around marriage is on men marrying women. That is the context of relationships that exist in the Constitution.
“We have no issue people celebrating their issue and cultures in America. That’s their choosing and its okay,” he responded.
And when the host sought to know his stand on American research that had established that man to woman marriage is short lived, Ruto just said, he cannot start stretching his imaginations that far.
“I cannot stretch my imagination farther. Maybe we leave it here for now,” he responded.
Speaking during the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund at KICC on March 2, Ruto who was reacting to the Supreme Court ruling, said he respects the rule of law but Kenya has its own culture and traditions.
“I am God fearing and although we respect the ruling made by the Supreme Court, we have our culture and traditions.
“Our religious affiliations (Islam or Christianity) cannot allow a woman to get married to a fellow woman or a man to a fellow man. We cannot do down that route,” he said.
The President together with his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, further called on religious leaders to rise up and guide their flock, lest Kenya lose its moral fabric.
