Tuesday, April 4, 2023 –Deputy President Rigtahi Gachagua has, in the history of his political life, delivered the shorted speech ever.
Addressing during the official opening of the Kenya Social Protection Conference at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, Nairobi, DP Gachagua, who was also present, was invited to address the audience only to end up recognising delegates before passing over the microphone to his boss.
It has emerged that this speech only lasted a record 40 seconds; this being a huge departure from his long hard-worded public speeches he is used to.
“When Kenya is peaceful I am also happy too, I don’t have much to say when Kenyans are busy,” he said before inviting his boss President William Ruto to make his speech and officially launch the fund.
Political pundits have attributed this to the recent developments within the government where the president has already extended an olive branch to the opposition; something that Gachagua has been opposed to.
Ruto, on the other hand, said that his government has allocated sh 28 Billion to support cash transfer programmes implemented by the State Department for Social Protection.
“We believe such interventions will help address the problem of exclusion by increasing the social protection cover of the vulnerable and supporting their economic empowerment to boost resilience,” he assured.
Present was Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli among other top union bosses in the country.
Atwoli lauded the Kenya Kwanza administration for starting the easy-to-access Hustlers Fund – a brain child of the current government.
