Sunday, April, 16, 2023 -Inspector General of Police IG Japhet Koome, on Sunday, April 16, said he cleared Azimio la Umoja rally at Kamukunji Grounds, today.
While issuing a warning against violence during the planned rally, the IG noted that Raila and his group had followed the right channels in getting cleared to hold their first rally since calling off their Nairobi demos.
Speaking to the media from Nairobi, Koome stated that police officers would, nontheless, respond with equal force, any destructive attempts by Raila’s supporters.
“Azimio has stated that they will visit the Kamukunji grounds. They followed due process by writing to Shauri Moyo’s OCS, and we approved the meeting because, unlike in the past, they followed the law,” he stated.
Koome also utilised the opportunity to pour cold water on Raila’s recent ICC threats.
The raging opposition has promised to hold parallel rallies even as bipartisan talks between factions take shape.
