Monday, April 17, 2023 –Police Inspector General IG Japhet Koome has been asked to also deal with banditry with the same zeal he is threatening to deal with Raila Odinga’s mass action and ICC threats.
Rift Valley leaders drawn from Baringo County on Sunday, April 16, held a local meeting and turned the heat on the IG for dwelling too much on Raila when other parts of the country needs his services.
Speaking at Sirate Region in Baringo, they faulted Koome for being tough on the opposition Leader Raila Odinga but completely flat on urgent issues of bandits in the North Rift.
“Why don’t you come here and say the same to the bandits who are attacking us daily?” the leaders said.
Led by Mochogoi Ward Representative Kipruto Kimosop, they demanded the IG to consider the issue of insecurity in their region a public threat than Azimio’s demonstrations and activities.
“The other day during Raila-led protests in Nairobi, we saw you act tough even remarking that you do not fear being taken to International Criminal Court ICC.
“You have every security resource and intelligence at your disposal, why are you finding it hard to nab those responsible?” Baringo South Member of Parliament Charles Kamuren posed.
The group unanimously asked for a quick facilitation to meet President William Ruto at Statehouse, Nairobi so that to engage him in person over the increasing number of deaths in their region due to attacks.
Currently, a section of leaders from the region revealed a security crack within the ranks as police and the army continue to defer on roles.
