Wednesday, April 19, 2023 –Youthful Embakasi East Member of Parliament MP Babu Owino’s case versus DJ Evolve born Felix Orinda will commence the hearing sessions on June 15, 2023.
In a court session held on Tuesday April 17, it was ruled that the Embakasi East Member of Parliament, has a case to answer over misuse of his firearm in a club despite being a licensed gun holder.
He was charged in 2020 following the shooting of the city DJ at a club in Nairobi’s upmarket Kilimani area.
Owino was facing a different charge of attempted murder which was withdrawn after talks with his victim – parents of the Dj.
However, the State maintained charges regarding misuse of firearm against Evolve and magistrate Benard Ochoi on Tuesday put the MP on his defense.
“After evaluating the prosecution’s evidence, the accused has a case to answer,” Milimani senior principal magistrate Benard Ochoi ruled.
But through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta the accused challenged claims that the bullet that shot DJ Evolve was discharged from his personal gun.
The development leaves a big dent in the Azimio camp which has been relying mostly on the MP’s mobilisation skills anytime they have demonstrations.
The second term lawmaker had entered into local agreement with the family of the victim and together agreed to settle the matter out of court.
He reportedly started funding Evolve’s medication and home care with a promise to make sure he(Evolve) has a business for self-dependence.
