Thursday, April 20, 2023 –Two police officers driving on the wrong side of the road reportedly knocked down a pedestrian today Thursday April 20 afternoon and attempted to run away before they were stopped by a crowd.
Raging members of the public quickly intervened and stopped the two police officers from escaping the scene after committing the crime.
The accident that took place along Kipande Road within the city saw members of the public confront the duo – one in uniform while the other was in plain cloth.
This happened for minutes even as the victim -a middle aged man – continued reeling in pain on the ground.
In a video which Homenews.co.ke had a look at, the raging crowd put the policemen on the spot on why they were speeding on the wrong side of the road in a busy environment.
The windscreen of their car had been shuttered meaning the victim was hit by the speeding car which shoved him to the windscreen before falling on the ground with a thud.
The video captured at the scene shows one of the witnesses harshlty stopping the officer behind the wheel from reversing and driving away from the scene.
“Why are you driving on the wrong side? Why are you knocking people? Why the hurry,” he posed as others supported.
It would emerge that the police were trying to evade the traffic jam when they hit the innocent man walking along the Kipande Road.
Attempts by the accused to bundle the victim in their car were also thwarted as residents argued that they may finally kill and throw him away to escape court cases.
The incident was happening even as the ministry of Transport under Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged motorists to observe road safety measures amid increased accidents on major roads across the country.
