Accompanied by his deputy as well as other leaders, the head of State was speaking on Sunday when he attended Church service at Friends Church (Quakers) in Donholm, Nairobi.

He added that the deductions will be aimed at providing Kenyans with affordable housing saying this deduction was necessary for every civil servant.

“Every Kenyan will be able to contribute 3 per cent of their salary towards affordable housing. For every 3 per cent someone saves, the employer will be required by law to save an extra 3 per cent,” he remarked.

Ruto further promised to make sure every top government official in his government starts being deducted this monies as an example to the rest.

“As a government, we will be at the forefront in implementing this. For all employees of the government – approximately 700,000 – we will be saving 3 per cent for them after they have made their own 3 per cent contribution,” the President announced.

So far, the country only has 40,000 mortgages which the president said was way too below the required numbers of 2 million.
