Thursday, April 27, 2023 –Prominent Nairobi lawyer Danstan Omari has today Thursday April 27 sued Majority Leader and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah over defamation slur.
Omari argues in the court papers seen by this writer that the majority leader in the National Assembly tweeted defamatory remarks in February this year.
The lawyer states that Ichung’wah claimed he is an immoral lawyer who frequents the infamous Koinange Street to meet twilight girls who ply their night trade there.
For that alone, Lawyer Omari is demanding sh11 million from MP Ichung’wah for alleged abusive remarks, arguing that he is a family man and an advocate of high standing who was affected buy the comments.
Omari also added that, for several years, he has been a commentator on various public issues in the media and the remarks from Ichung’wah were purposed to paint him in bad faith.
The drama between the two ensude after Omari, during a past interview on NTV, teared apart President William Ruto’s administration and, more specifically, Ichung’wah, over what he termed as the harassment of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We have a new regime that wants to drag Uhuru Kenyatta to court, and as lawyers we will make money to defend him, but what will be the impact? The retired President has a lot of force globally…Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta, globally, control 80 per cent of the networks,” said the advocate during the February 1, 2023 interview.
Ichung’wah, however, did not take the remarks lying down, firing back at the lawyer in a quoted retweet that did not sit well with the renowned lawyer.
The UDA MP is now required to file his defense once served with official summons by the claimant.
