Thursday, April 27, 2023 –Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei has challenged Governors to learn to stand on their own rather than waiting for the unpredictable county disbursements.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker, on Thursday, April 27, asked Chairperson of the Council of Governors who is also Kirinyaga County boss Ann Waiguru to share with colleagues on ways of enhancing revenue growth within their respective counties.
This, she observed, will not derail development activities in their respective counties and lay blame on the national government which also has its fair share of challenges.
“The Head of State is working with development partners to ensure that our Counties receive the monies which they seriously need.
“However, the main focus should be local revenue generation. The money from the National Government should supplement the local revenue generation,” Shollei noted.
She was saying this with regard to delays in county allocation from the national government; what threatened shutting down the counties.
President William Ruto, on Thursday, April 27, signed into law the Division of Revenue Bill, 2023.
The Senate passed the Bill after a lengthy back and forth between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja MPs.
A whopping sh 370 billion were finally allocated to counties in the current financial year 2022/23.
