Friday, May 12, 2023 –Rumours have it that former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati was flown out of the country for an emergency medication.
Word on the streets indicated that Mr. Chebukati started ailing and, shortly, his condition went to worse forcing the family to airlift him out of the country.
An unconfirmed source further revealed that the former electoral boss was airlifted secretly to German to receive special treatment.
“Chebukati evacuated to Germany over illness. Shakahola gods are being defeated. Awuoro!” Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai claimed.
Another source also said, till now, the IEBC chairman is on his worst health condition but this news site is yet to verify the reports.
“You can’t mess up with Baba and go caught free. Rumors have it that CHEBUKATI is on his death bed . He should just rot in hell for messing up with elections where he was to declare Baba the winner,” a user commented.
Chebukati who is nolonger at the IEBC after his term came to an end last year, has overseen about three elections with the latest having attracted criticism from the opposition side.
He declared Kenya Kwanza Party’s flagbearer William Ruto the winner despite the fact that four of his commissioners had dissented on the results; meaning there was lack of legal quorum.
This didn’t bother Chebukati as he went ahead to announce the winner of the presidential race; what triggered another round of legal battle at the Supreme Court.
At the Supreme Court, Azimio’s leader Raila Odinga was dealt another major blow after the seven-man bench heard none of his prayers.
William Ruto would then become the president-elect before finally being sworn into office to succeed his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Since then, Raila has sustained pressure on the ruling regime as he seeks review of the electoral process in the country.
He is also asking the William Ruto-led government to open IEBC servers so that the true winner of the August 9 contest can be known and the matter settled permanently.
