Monday, May 29, 2023 –Senator of Nandi Samson Cherargei has called out opposition leader Raila Odinga for allowing impeachment of Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol .
Taking to his official pages on Moinday May 29, Cherargei argued that the exercise that saw the DG punished by the county leadership in Siaya was sanctioned by Mr. Odinga, the Party leader Orange Democratic Movement ODM.
He added that it was out of order to impeach someone who was fighting runaway corruption in Siaya County.
“The impeachment proceedings & removal from ODM party of siaya Deputy Governor H.E Oduol by Tinga is sickening & nauseating for exposing corruption in siaya County govt.
“As a Senate we shall NOT impeach DG Oduol nor confirm impeachment proceedings from siaya county assembly against him. This once again has confirmed Tinga as Lord of corruption, poverty and impunity ! Blessed afternoon,” he announced.
Siaya County Assembly on Monday, May 29, morning, voted to endorse an impeachment motion against embattled Deputy Governor William Oduol.
The motion was tabled by East Asembo Ward MCA Gordon Onguru as the first business of the Assembly and, thereafter, put to a vote by all Members of the County Assembly.
The said motion accused Oduol of gross misconduct by working with those he termed as detractors to distabilise the county.
38 MCAs endorsed Oduol’s impeachment with no abstention or opposition to the motion – and this could see him become the first deputy governor to be impeached in 2023.
Oduol and his boss James Orengo have been in constant supremacy tussle with the former accusing the latter of undermining his office and presiding over runaway corruption.
