Thursday, June 1, 2023 –President William Ruto took issue with those distorting the newly-proposed Finance Bill 2023 and said politicians should learn to feed the population with accurate information.
Ruto said the proposed housing levy in the Bill is not a tax as it is being peddled by detractors but an investment for every Kenyan under his leadership.
The head of State also said his administration was fighting to pay foreign outstanding debts so that the country can start to stand on its own.
On the housing levy, Ruto noted that it will be wrong for him to leave the suffering Kenyans in slums throughout their lives and, therefore, he is working on pulling them from that poor environment.
“Debate is on manufacturing, employment, meals, loans, agriculture and housing. I am happy because this is now the new conversation in Kenya.
“It’s everybody’s responsibility to make sure there are jobs, security and decent housing for every household in this nation,” he said.
Revisiting the August 9 general elections, Ruto claimed he was elected democratically through a fair and verifiable elections exercise where electoral portal was accessible for everybody to scrutinise.
He also promised to develop roads and local dams in Embu County and asked for some patience as he adjusts taxes that will make sure this is a success under his leadership.
President Ruto used the opportunity to launch the Hustler Group Loan product as part of his Hustler Fund program for small and medium businesses..
The new funding product will allow beneficiaries to secure upto sh 1 million in business loans as a group.
On his part, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attacked the media saying it is still colluding with the opposition to fight their government.
Mr Gachagua who was lauding efforts by his boss in transforming the country into an East African economic hub, claimed that the media was hellbent in distorting the message so that to paint Kenya Kwanza administration as a failed regime.
“Do not mind with what they are saying about you and all of us. Press has all along belonged to Azimio but keep your eyes focused on the ball to deliver for the people.
“The press was part and parcel of the Azimio brigade,” DP Gachagua told President William Ruto during the Madaraka Day event.
Area Governor Cecile Mbarire seized the opportunity to thank President William Ruto for instructing his government to hold the occasion in her county hence boosting economic activities and name of the county for the first time since inception of the country.
They were speaking this during 60th Madaraka Day celebrations held in Kiambu County and attended by President of Comoros Azali Assoumani.
