Sunday, June 4, 2023 –Government has sounded a stern warning to Azimio lawmakers in Parliament who are planning to curtail the Finance Bill 2023.
Speaking on Sunday June 4 during the thanksgiving service of Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya in Narok, President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, promised to assert their authority to see the Bill sail through in Parliament.
Ruto firmly stated that he was waiting to see which Member of Parliament MP will fight the Bill when it will be brought on the floor for debating.
“I am watching and I will remain vigil to see those hellbent on shooting down the Bill meant to help these poor persons in the society.
“I can’t wait to know note these MPs,” he threatened.
On the other hand, his deputy, Mr. Gachagua, said any MP who will oppose the government’s plan will be denied other development privileges.
He openly stated that such leaders will not be receiving funds meant to help them develop their areas with roads, schools, hospitals etc.
“I was in Kitui yesterday, and their MP spoke about cessation, and people were clapping. And then soon after, he told me they needed roads. Where does he expect the money to build roads to come from?
“Some of you (leaders) are lying to Kenyans, but know that if your MP is opposed to the Finance Bill, they should not ask for roads,” Gachagua recounted.
Mugirango South Lawmaker, Sylvanus Osoro, who is also the Majority Chief Whip who accompanied them to Narok, reiterated his earlier remark that he will make sure the Bill goes through no matter what.
He noted that, government cannot lose its target when it wants.
“I said and, today I repeat, this Bill must pass because nothing can stop governmnet from doing what it wants,” he stated.
They were saying this after opposition leader Raila Odinga continued issuing ultimatums to them to withdraw the controversial Bill in totality.
Already, Busia County Senator Okiya Omatatah has petitioned government in court seeking to halt the Bill-processing exercise.
In the petition, Omatatah has listed four key areas he wants answers on behalf of their supporters.
