Tuesday, June 13, 2023 –Kenyans have poured on social media to laud former Nairobi County governor Mike Sonko for helping former boxer Conjestina Achieng reclaim her health.
First to thank Mr. Sonko is Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna who said, on this one, Sonko deserves accolades from those who knew how Conjestina was looking like before rehabilitation.
“Make sure she doesn’t drink alcohol or take drugs in the new place. I give credit where it is due,” he commented the good job done by Mike Sonko.
Blogger-turned-politician Robert Alai also seized the chance to laud the businessman, saying this was a true support that everyone should emulate.
“Now this is real support. Now this is NOT FAKE Bwana governor. Thanks for supporting my sister. Be careful with the women who visit her. They are the ones who used to bring her hard stuff because we least suspected them,” Alai noted.
In his statement from where Conjestina will now be working, Sonko said he had changed mind and switched Conjestina to a more respectful working environment.
“As Conje embarks on this new chapter of her life, she carries with her the hopes and dreams of young upcoming boxers. Her story serves as a reminder that everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves, regardless of their past or present circumstances,” he stated.
“My initial plan for conje after healing was to employ her as the Head of security operations at the international Club Volume but changed my mind after thinking through what she has gone through before on drug and substance abuse. I don’t want her around any environment associated with drugs,” he added.
Therefore, he clarified that from now henceforth, reformed Conje will be the gym instructor and head of security at Salama Bling Beach resort, Kanamai.
Mr. Sonko confirmed that her family – her sister, coach and son, – had come to an agreement that her new place of work was the right one for her.
Conjestina has been undergoing rehabilitation for over two years at a Coastal-based center courtesy of Mike Sonko who picked her from her Siaya Village home where she had been drained with drugs.
