Saturday, June 17, 2023 –Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o today Saturday June 17 joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to a philanthropy event.
The two Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party elected leaders were seen atop their cars behind Gachagua who donated a staggering sh 2.1 million in the Heart-to-Walk event organised by the Karen Hospital.
“Today in Langata we hosted the Karen Heart to Heart run. The Karen Hospital hosts this noble even annually to raise funds to help in paying for heart surgeries mostly for children. The event was graced by Deputy president Riggy G,” Jalang’o stated.
Addressing, DP Gachagua noted that the walks were a noble undertaking aimed at helping raise funds for children with heart complications.
He stated that a number of families were struggling to raise money to help their children get heart surgeries and promised that their government will be looking into the matter so that it can get a lasting solution.
The DP added that this health programme is part of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto of making sure every citizen has an access to quality and affordable health care.
“Open heart surgery at KNH costs between sh 350,000 to sh 450,000 while close heart surgery ranges between Ksh150,000 to Ksh250,000. The cost may increase after the procedure.
“I have raised sh 2.1 million for this course, ” he announced.
He then lauded organisers led by Dr. Dan Gikonyo saying the programme is important to add hope to the many needy cases in Kenya.
Gachagua’s data indicated that, today, over 200,000 children in Kenya were in need of heart-related treatment and surgeries.
