Governor Nyongo to replace striking medics

Tuesday, December 22, 2020 -Doctors who will not report at work by Saturday morning will be fired according to Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o.

Issuing the stern ultimatum on Tuesday morning, Prof. Nyong’o said he is ready to hire new medics for the County if the current group of doctors is not willing to work with his government.

“We call upon the health workers to come back to work by latest Saturday, anybody who doesn’t come back to work will have been deemed to have voluntary abandoned their position,” he said.

He further argued that pay was not an enough justification for their industrial action at a time the country needed them most.

He added that he had addressed most of their grievances and therefore he sees no need for their strike.

According to medics, they are not getting the safety attention required while at work what is putting their lives at a higher risk.

“I don’t have outstanding issues with my doctors so why should they be protesting,” he posed while in Kisumu.

The medics also want group life insurance to protect them and their families just  incase they die or are incapacitated.

On his part, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said what doctors were doing was to politicize matters health in the country.
