Tuesday, December 22, 2020 -Orange Democratic Movement Party ODM should not field a candidate in the forthcoming Matungu mini-poll.
Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has asked the Raila Odinga-led party to retreat back on their plans to participate and instead focus on supporting a Jubilee candidate this time around.
Citing the fruits of the Handshake, Murathe noted that it would be brotherly for their ODM counterparts to support another party in the race.
Uhuru and ODM boss Raila Odinga in March 2018 buried their political differences with an aim of working together; what then informed the idea of fielding joint candidates in many by-elections that would arise.
For instance in Kibra, Uhuru Kenyatta asked his party not to participate in the race as his friend Raila led his troops to win the race with Imran Okoth.
In Msambweni Constituency, the same was replicated even though Mr. Odinga’s party lost to Ruto ally, Uhuru was behind the ODM candidate Omar Boga.
And while on a local radio interview a day ago, firebrand David Murathe bothered that ODM should this time support their Jubilee candidate.
“In the spirit of the Handshake, the ODM party should not field a Candidate in Matungu,” Murathe, recommended as party Secretary General Raphael Tuju mentioned that Kabuchai must also be left for Jubilee.
This however will be a tough condition for the ODM which is already flexing muscles for the seat that was left vacant by the death of MP Justus Murunga.
