Wednesday, June 21, 2023 –Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli will be part of a team appointed by President William Ruto to pick next Director of Public Prosecutions DPP.
President Ruto made the appointments on Wednesday June 21 also bringing on board Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC boss Twalib Abdallah Mbarak.
In the squad, names of Mary Adhiambo Maungu, Roseline Odede, Richard Onsongo, Bush Obwo and Mary Kimonye also featured.
Dr. Ruto also saw the need to include the name of Solicitor General Shadrack Mose to be part of the seven members.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 2013, L, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint the seven to be members of the Selection Panel for the Selection of Nominees for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions,” partly read the statement as seen by Homenews.co.ke.
In the Wednesday announcement, Ruto did not specify when the next DPP should have been picked and appointed to start job.
It, therefore, means that Mr. Atwoli, and his team will have to shortlist and finally select who President William Ruto will finally give the prosecution job.
Basically, they will have to front successful names and the President will finally decide who he feels can be a better replacement for Mr. Noordin Haji who has since moved to National Intelligence Service NIS department.
The final individual, as per the Constitution of Kenya, must be vetted by the National Assembly.
