Thursday, June 22, 2023 –A Mumias-based police officer was today arrested taking a bribe over an impounded car in the area.
It is reported that Joshua Ouma Oduor was busted by officers from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC on Thursday after a complain had been made to the anti-graft agency.
“The Commission received the complaint today and immediately commenced investigations which culminated in the arrest of the suspect while receiving the bribe,” EACC said.
He had asked for sh 4,000 cash to release the car which had been detained at Mumias Police Station, Kakamega County.
EACC made this confirmation saying the car had been detained at the station on claims that its number plate was faint.
On arrest, the officer was escorted to the EACC offices in the neighbouring Bungoma County where his charges were prepared and later booked at Bungoma Police Station.
This incident comes a week after another police officer was arrested for soliciting a sh 10,000 bribe to release a motorbike that he had confiscated and detained in Igembe North, Meru County.
The arrest of George Waweru Kagia followed a complaint lodged by a local bodaboda rider.
