Monday, June 26, 2023 –Small video creators can now start monetizing their YouTube content following downward review on eligibility threshold.
Recently, YouTube made an announcement that anyone with 500 subscribers can join their monetization program usually called ‘YouTube Partner Program (YPP)’.
According to Gizmochina tech blog, under the revised policies, creators will now be eligible to join the YPP once they hit only 500 subscribers, and not 1000 as it has been before.
Moreover, the threshold for valid watch hours has been reduced by one thousand i.e from 4,000 to 3,000, and the number of Shorts views required has been adjusted downwards by 7000 from 10 million to 3 million.
However, the Google-owned video-sharing platform said, these changes will initially be implemented in the United States U.S, United Kingdom U.K, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea as other countries wait for their day.
While the lower requirements allows smaller creators to monetize their content, it’s important to note that revenue sharing through the YPP will still necessitate meeting the existing criteria.
However, creators who achieve the higher requirements will not be required to reapply to the program. YouTube has been actively promoting its Ad revenue-sharing program for Shorts; a move aimed at encouraging creators to produce short-form content for busy persons just like it happens with TokTok.
YouTube’s decision to expand monetization opportunities follows a similar trend seen on platforms like TikTok which, today, has emerged as a leading viral video platform around the world.
