Friday, June 30, 2023 –Governor Gladys Wanga today received Orange Democratic Movement ODM boss Raila Odinga in Homabay for a grand opening of Raila Odinga Stadium in the county.

Governor Wanga invited Mr. Odinga and section of other Luo Nyanza governors and leaders in the event that started a few minutes past 10AM on Friday.

“The anticipation is palpable as we invite you to join us and watch history being made at the grand opening of the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay,” she invited all.

A user by the name of Che noted that it was wrong to name the stadium after the opposition leader instead of giving it Tom Mboya name in remembrance of his great leadership wisdom.

“The stadium should have been named after Tom Mboya. We are a people who bury its heroes in the pages of history. Overall, good trial, considering your colleagues are still in their midnight slumber,” Che said in her comment.

Obonyo Wilfred argued that, now with the state-of-the-art stadium in the area, it was time the Governor launched a county team to raise the flag on their county even further.

His sentiments echoed by Tom Ouma who urged the governor to now look into the overall sports standards within the county and help where necessary.

“This stadium took Awiti 5 years to demolish and another 5 years to plan how it will be constructed. Madam Governor you’re amazing if not special.

“Kindly push now for county league and county team for girls and boys introducing American football. Thanks,” Tom Ouma commented.

Another local noted that the development had elevated their county to greater heights than Siaya and Migori counties combined.

“Apart from Kisumu, which is the capital of Luo Counties, Homabay has taken off. Siaya and  Migori will always drag behind,” anonymous stated.

Today Friday June 30, Mr. Odinga presided over the commissioning of both Raila Odinga Stadium and the Genowa Governors Park in Homabay County.

Governor Gladys Wanga who before becoming the county boss was Woman Representative Homabay.

In 2022, she ran against well-oiled Evans Kidero whom she beat in a hotly-contested race that ended up in the court.

The court would, however, quash Kidero’s petition on grounds of lack of firm basis.
