Saturday, July 1, 2023 –Kakamega Hoemboyz club has today won the Mozzartbet FKF Cup in a tension-packed match that took place at Moi Sports Center Kasarani, Nairobi.
Though Tusker FC came with one intention; to save themselves from any loss after losing the KPL Title to Gor Mahia, Kakamega’s Kevin Amwayi struck a volley in the 72nd minute; a goal that broke the camel’s back.
Tusker who had prepared well were looking foward to console themselves with qualification to next season’s CAF Confederations Cup but hard-to-topple Abana Beingo proved them wrong towards the tail end of the Saturday clash.
The brewers gave a good account of themselves, Shami Mwinyi in particular, a bright spark for the Ruaraka-based side that almost equalized but it was cut shot by HB’s keeper.
And with the win now, Kakamega Homeboyz will be playing continental football for the first time in their history, along with Gor who will be representing the country in the CAF Champions League.
In an earlier match at the same venue(Kasarani), Eugene Mukangula’s solitary strike was enough to earn AFC Leopards third place at the expense of Ulinzi Stars.
In the pecking order, Gor Mahia, Homeboyz FC, Tusker FC, AFC Leopards are now the best teams in Kenya for this season.
