Monday, July 3, 2023 –Kenyans have continued to react on a video showing Lang’ata Member of Parliament MP Felix Oduor aka Jalang’o pay bus fare for commuters in his area.
A video shared by Pauline Njoroge on Monday July 3 noon, shows Jalang’o begging to pay for commuters their bus fare to town.
“Wangapi wanaenda tao ninawalipia sasa hivi,” he asked as residents flocked the PSV doors for the free ride.
But in a sharp criticism, Media strategist Pauline Njoroge wondered why the MP, who just the other day, voted for an increase in fuel taxes in the Finace Bill that has since been turned into law, only to come back to start paying fares for stranded commuters.
“You go to parliament and vote for fuel price to be increased to Ksh 195.53, therefore affecting fare price. Afterwards you go hopping from one matatu stage to another, paying fare for people. How long will you sustain this and in the entire Lang’ata constituency, how many people can you cater for every day? This is madness!!,” she blasted.
Kenyans supported her views with some describing what Jalang’o was upto as an insult to the voter since he is among the opposition MPs who defiantly supported the Bill despite party leader Raila Odinga warning them several times.
“This is an open insult to the people,” a user commented.
Alexander also joined the debate saying Jalang’o was now pulling a Ruto PR stunts to mislead the poor into supporting their leadership blunders.
“That’s the Ruto playbook …. he has done it with some governors. Create a need, then appear charitable by fulfilling that need. It’s called political racketeering,” Alexander.
A few social media users, however, saw some positivity in the whole move saying sharing with the poor is Biblical and that the MP should not be condemned for his generosity.
MP Jalang’o and Esther Passaris are among the Azimio la Umoja leaders who openly supported the controversial Finance Bill 2023 which Ruto has already signed into Law.
