Tuesday, July 4, 2023 – Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka (ODM) and Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku (ODM) joined UDA Party during a grassroots recruitment meeting presided over by Cleophas Malala in Kisii County on Monday July 3.
MP Onyonka has been a staunch Raila Odinga supporter just like Manduku and their moving to government is a big blow to the opposition.
In what UDA Party has started as a charm offensive in Gusii (Kisii and Nyamira counties), sources have revealed to this desk that Ruto’s Party is hellbent on completely crippling ODM in the region.
UDA Party is also on a charm offensive in all Raila’s historical strongholds including his own Nyanza Region where a number of leaders are already working with the government.
A source who spoke to Senator Onyonka told Homenews.co.ke that Onyonka had earlier claimed that UDA leaders were accessible and wanted his services than ODM counterparts.
“They were at my doorstep, I couldn’t avoid them,” the source stated.
Senator Richard Onyonka’s pronouncement should concern those in ODM since he has been a household name in Kisii for at least 20 years.
Additionally, his father, Zachary Onyonka was at the helm of Gussii leadership for 25 years and since 2007, Onyonka has never lost any election.
In a post shared by Journalist Abuga Makori, it is Simba Arati’s style of leadership that Onyonka cannot put up with and which ODM Party has been sluggish to address.
“He had just left UDA function. While Onyonka might defend himself, the truth is, Simba Arati’s style of politics has been a huge disappointment to him for months now,” Makori disclosed his discussion with the Senator as another source from the region stated that Onyonka will associate himself with anybody who is against Simba Arati.
It came as a shock after Senator Onyonka and Nyaribo Masaba MP Daniel Manduku declared their allegiance to President William Ruto. The two were elected of Raila Odinga’s ODM Party.
