Wednesday, July 5, 2023 –A United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai has been arrested today morning.
The Kitui East lawmaker was cornered at his Mavoko home in the morning hours of Wednesday July 5 just hours after he was captured on camera assaulting a utility officer from Kenya Power and Lighting Company KPLC over some disagreement on power connections at his Kitengela home.
Homenews.co.ke has learnt from the police records that the second term MP is currently held at a Kitengela police station so that to be presented at Kajiado Law Courts for charges.
“Today at around 0830hrs, a group of Kenya Power employees numbering about 30 from Kitengela Branch protested from their officers in EPZ to Kitengela Police Station against the above MP who assaulted one of them on July 3, 2023,” the OB report read in part.
In a photo seen by this writer, Mr. Mbai is handcuffed while standing in a police station in Kajiado.
But even as the news about his arrest continued spreading, a source who is an associate, claimed that the MP volunteered himself to the nearest police station after he learnt of the uproar.
Asked why the police would then handcuff a surrendered suspect, the source only said, it is a global practice the world over when the claims are related to assault; since the law enforcers still think the man could still run berserk in their hands.
On Tuesday, drama ensued at his home in Kitengela where officers from the Kenya Power Company KPLC accompanied by area police reportedly recovered power cables and a meter box which they believe were meant for illegal connections.
A video showing the MP in an open altercation with the KPLC officers was first shared online by blogger-turned-politician Robert Alai on Tuesday July 4 evening.
