Monday, July 10, 2023 –Members of the public seized the opportunity to air their grievances as Azimio leader Raila Odinga walked and later boarded a matatu this morning to the Central Business District CBD.
Elated crowd, touts and matatu driverswere seen scrambling to shake hands with the ‘walking’ opposition leader who first bought a few copies of national newspapers before boarding a nearby matatu.
Raila Odinga used Ngong Road from Karen to walk to the Nairobi Business Central District CBD.
“I had a meeting with a team of ODM ladies in Nairobi CBD so I caught a matatu and alighted at Ambassador. I thank them for the invitation.
“Nikiwa kwa mathree tumechapiana story na wasee wameniambia vile life imekalia Wakenya noma mbaya sana,” he recounted his interaction with commuters.
Mr. Odinga was mobbed by array of challenges facing the nation ranging from high cost of living to what some call an ‘insensitive government’.
“It was painful to hear in detail about the hardship our people face daily due to the inept and illegitimate regime’s actions. I also took the opportunity to visit the statues of Tom Mboya and Dedan Kimathi. It was a pleasant morning,” Raila further recounted his talk in the matatu.
He later on addressed mammoth crowd along Wabera Street in the CBD where he urged the youth to join him in pressurizing this government to lower the cost of living.
But even as this was going on, a section of politicians allied to the government were not happy with this development.
For instance, United Democratic Alliance UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala wondered why Raila, who has so many cars, would be walking to lie to the public that he was cutting on the costs.
“Another Normal sarakasi to hoodwink people. Which Kenyan walks to work surrounded by well trained officers & govt fuelled vehicles following and waiting for him? And which work station was Raila Odinga and Azimio reporting to?” Malala ranted.
But Malala’s remarks were quickly countered by ODM Communication Director Philip Etale who sought to know why Malala was obsessed with Raila’s name.
The opposition leader boarded Matatu from Ngong Kerarapon to Ambassador bus stop; an exercise he had to part with sh. 200 like any other passenger.
