Thursday, July 13, 2023 –High Court sitting in Nairobi has blocked the Kanini Kega-Sabina Chege camp from taking over Jubilee Party.
Justice Asenath Ongeri has today Thursday July 13 issued conservatory orders barring Kanini-Chege from running the former ruling party.
The High Court has, therefore, stopped the expulsion of Mr. Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary General, David Murathe (Vice Chair), and Kagwe Gichohi (Treasurer).
“The application dated 12/7/2023 is certified urgent. The same is to be served upon the respondents for an interparty hearing on 26/7/2023 before Hon. Justice Visram. In the meantime, conservatory orders are granted in terms of prayers 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the application dated 12/7/2023,” read part of the ruling.
Speaking at a media presser by Azimio La Umoja after the ruling, an elated Kioni lauded the move by the High Court which he termed as justice.
“It is encouraging to see that part of the Judiciary still cares about being fair and just,” Kioni commented.
The former Ndaragwa lawmaker described the latest Political Parties Tribunal ruling as just some drama that was short lived.
“Early this week we were treated to some drama within the political parties dispute tribunal,” Kioni stated.
He asked his fellow party officials gazzeted on March 22 to remain steadfast adding that Jubilee will not be pulling out of Azimio any time soon.
The acquired orders now reverses a decision that was passed on Monday, July 10, by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT).
The decision had affirmed the removal of Kioni and Murathe from party leadership amid back and forth in the Jubilee party under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
