Saturday, July 15, 2023 –Energy regulator has reviewed downwards the prices of both Diesel and Petrol.
In the new pricing of Saturday July 15, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority EPRA, said Super Petrol will retail at sh 194.68 – a drop of sh 0.85 from the current sh 195.53 price while a litre of Diesel remained at sh 179.67.
EPRA also reduced Kerosene to sh 169.48 from the current sh 173.44 being a reduction by sh 3.96
“Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol and Kerosene decrease by Ksh0.85 and Ksh3.96 per litre respectively while Diesel remains unchanged,” partly read the statement from APRA.
This review coming 14 days following a recent increase of sh 13 on Petrol which came in effect on June 31 after President William Ruto signed the new 16 percent VAT on fuel products; an increase from 8 percent.
“EPRA has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from July 15, 2023, to August 14, 2023, in accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022,” EPRA further announced.
Despite the agitation from the public and court orders against the law, EPRA went on to make the changes in complete defiance of active court orders.
It saw the petitioner, Senator Okiya Omtatah, reach out to the regulator warning them of consequences should they not restore prices back to normal.
Amid threats to maintain higher transportation cost on roads, transport stakeholders are yet to give clear direction on whether fares will change downwards with the new development.
