Saturday, July 22, 2023 –Raila Odinga’s bodyguard has broken his silence hours after his dramatic release from a three-day arrest.

Speaking on a local radio station today Saturday July 22 noon, Maurice Ogeta recounted his ordeal in the hands of police officers who abducted him saying he was mistreated a lot.

He also claimed that the police kept asking him about Raila Odinga’s end game after announcing the three-day protests countrywide.

“They demanded to know the route plan almost 20 times and I told them my boss was unwell and I wasn’t sure if he (Raila) will even come out for the demonstrations but they continued pressing me to tell them his whereabouts, which I said I was unaware because I was just heading to the office,” Ogeta said.

The trained officer was also asked about guns and what his boss Raila Odinga was planning against the government during the ongoing protests.

“They questioned me about the guns and my boss’ plans for the protests… I think my arrest and detention was about Jakom’s (Raila) whereabouts and the route plan,” he said.

Ogeta then confirmed he was set free on Saturday July 22 at around 1AM after he was whisked from the detention room by hooded gunmen who dumped him in Ruai, adding that the masked officers wore gloves to avoid leaving any traces behind.

“I asked them where I was because I couldn’t locate where I was but one of them dismissed me saying you will just find your way,” Ogeta said.

Mr. Ogeta was arrested last Wednesday, the same day Azimio had announced a start of their anti-State demonstrations.

Others who were arrested but later released are Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino as well as Youth political activist Calvin Okoth or Gaucho.

Unlike Ogeta, the duo of Gaucho and Babu was presented in court and processed through a sh 100,000 cash bail before they were freed.
